Ever have a day when you want a brownie, a s’more, and a red velvet cake all at the same time? Well you are in luck! I came across this recipe from another awesome blogger BalancingB and I just had to make it. Note that I am sure it has a real name but I felt like this title fit the bill perfectly. When I told my husband I was going to post about this he said, “So you’re not running anywhere near healthy today!” This is not a healthy recipe, but it is Sunday so eat, relax and deal with it tomorrow.
1 box of brownie mix
7 sheets of graham crackers
1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups mini marshmallows
7 ounces of sweetened condensed milk (don’t bother getting the fat free version for this one)
1 box red velvet cake mix
1 stick of butter softened or melted
2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350º. Spray a 9×13 baking dish. Make the brownies according to the package and pour batter into bottom of baking dish. Top evenly with graham crackers. Sprinkle chocolate chips and mini marshmallows on top. Pour condensed milk over everything. Mix the red velvet cake mix with the butter, egg and canola oil to make a cookie dough. Use a scoop and dollop the dough on top of the s’more layer. Lightly flatten to spread it out. Bake for 45 minutes and then allow to cool for at least 2 hours. Cut and enjoy.
I actually tried buying red velvet cake mix on Valentine’s Day and the store was completely out of it. Big duh on my part. So I bought a yellow cake mix and added 2 tablespoons of baking cocoa and 1 ounce of red food coloring. It totally did the trick.
When I was in middle school an English teacher taught us how to remember the difference between the spelling of desert and dessert. She told us that you always want more than one dessert and that is why it has two S’s. Well yesterday was a bit like that spelling lesson and then some!
After I made this mound of deliciousness and was waiting for it to cool off I decided to go for a nice 9 mile run in anticipation of gobbling up some dessert later. On my way home I stopped to pick up dry cleaning. Unfortunately/fortunately the dry cleaners is right next to the Cookie Bar that I posted about yesterday. They are only open Thursday-Saturday so I just had to peek in since it was my last chance until next Thursday. Of course I left with two bags of cookies and the owner gave me a frosting truffle to try. Side note: the truffle was absolutely fantastic. Excellent marketing on their part because my husband and I are now hooked.
When I was a little girl I LOVED Miss Piggy. I had a Miss Piggy doll and I carried her everywhere. I also gave her a horrible spiked haircut, but that is a whole other topic. To this day when I run into my childhood pediatrician he continues to ask if I still have Miss Piggy (the answer is yes). It is days like yesterday that I refer to myself as “Miss Piggy.” Not because of the dessert I made or because of my trip to the Cookie Bar. Brace yourself it gets worse!
I made a nice dinner and then my husband presented me with a Valentine’s gift as we gobbled through our mounds of dessert; the brownie, 2 different types of cookies and the frosting truffle, in case you lost track.
Yes that is right, it is a chocolate fountain. Could the day get any more unhealthy? It was so bad it was hilarious! At the same time he reached into a bag and presented me with two giant ziplocs full of my mother-in-law’s famous chocolate chip cookies.
It can only get healthier from here right?!
