Energized and Inside Out

A few weeks ago I was contacted by the community manager at ENERGYbits and offered the chance to try their product.  Normally I avoid most products that contain “energy” in their name but this one seemed to be a bit different.  I had also been following them on Twitter and they have signed several athletes from the Olympics and a few well known players I recognized from the NHL.  I figured that if world class athletes felt comfortable using their product I was ok giving it a shot.

ENERGYbits are made from 100% spirulina algae, a very high concentration of protein.  There is no caffeine or other additives.  The only thing giving you energy is the algae.  These bits come in the form of a tablet and it is recommended that you take approximately 30 tablets before a workout.  Note that I only took 10 each time I tried these out.  These bits also are a green color and my husband commented that they smell like fish food.  It is recommended that you swallow them and not chew them.

Although I only took 10 tablets each time I used them I did notice a nice change in my endurance.  These are not like taking caffeine pills or what I imagine downing a 4 Hour Energy or Redbull would be like.  There is no caffeine high or shaking/trembling as the bits kick in.

The first time I took the bits I had 10 before I did a 10 mile run.  Halfway through I noticed that I felt energized and my endurance felt great.  I was not the least bit winded.  The main thing I did like was that I didn’t have my post run ravenous surge.  Usually I get extremely hungry within 30 minutes of finishing a run.  I was able to finish my run and go do a few errands before getting to lunch.

Each bit only has 1 calorie and does not contain any gluten or any other additives.  They are touted as being 100% protein and can help with curb food cravings and apparently can also be used before bed for a nice healthy sleep.  I didn’t venture this far as I have a fear of laying awake at night.

I generally wouldn’t recommend supplements but these are not considered supplements.  It is very important to me that anything I share with my readers I am completely honest about how it worked and how I feel about the product.  Although I wouldn’t use them on a regular basis I would consider using them again especially during marathon training when my energy levels seem to tank.  I did ask an acquaintance who happens to be a reputable acupuncturist how she felt about this product and she said that she felt it was completely safe to consume and much better for you than many other energy products she has seen.

ENERGYbits are only available at ENERGYbits.com, and Jonathan (their Community Manager) has shared with me that he’d be happy to connect anyone with a current ambassador to share a discount on a bag of bits, or more info on their sample program – you can email him at jlevitt@energybits.com

On another note, I had a pretty funny experience on my run last Friday.  It was finally mild enough to go out in shorts and I was so happy to do just that.  Everything felt so good and I felt like I was flying so I decided to do a nice 7 mile run.

Many of you know about my lack of coordination.  Apparently it took itself to a whole new level on Friday.  At the turn around I looked down and noticed that something seemed off.  I couldn’t quite place it.  And then it hit me……I had my shorts on inside out.

I stopped for a moment and tried to think off a simple solution.  The only problem was that I was on the middle of a trail and there was nothing between me and home besides more trail and a lot of city streets.  So I took a deep breath and kept plugging along.  The more I thought about it I had already done 3.5 miles and if people had already noticed, then why stop now?!

I spent the remainder of the run half amused and half embarrassed.  Seems to be a normal state for me.

Good luck to all of the Shamrock Shufflers this morning in Chicago and anywhere else.  Have a great time runners!

  1. Ha! This happened to me one time and I didn’t realize till about half way through my work out with my trainer. Either he didn’t notice or wasn’t going to tell me. 🙂

  2. Haha, loving the pants…gosh, if you ever become a mum, you’ll likely do that sort of stuff all the time. I’ve gone out with mis-matched shoes on before. The world needs people like us to entertain them 😉

  3. Nice review, I appreciate how candid you are with your reviews. This is what happens when you get used to running in cold weather, you forget how to put on shorts right 😉

  4. Oh I’ve done that on more than one occasion, with different items of clothing–winter beanie too so the tag was so apparent! Never noticed until I’d get home! 🙂 Thanks for the energy review too, interesting, and I’ll have to look into it!! Happy running!

  5. Sounds like a great product – I’ve been hearing a lot, and maybe I’ll try it when I flush with cash! 🙂

I don’t know that I’ve worn pants inside out, but I have backward and I’ve worn shirts to work inside out. Not sure how I do those things, but when I do, I like to pretend like it was on purpose…

  6. This is hilarious! It must have bothered you so much. I know that this would probably kill me ahahah! Thanks for the review, I’ll give it a try in the future. The only thing that I don’t really understand is why you have to take 30 tablets? Wouldn’t it be easier to simply make tablets bigger? lol! xoxo

  7. Pahaha OMG I’m sure I’m going to wear some piece of running clothing inside-out at some point. I have worn a shirt backwards once. Didn’t notice until I got back from my run and it finally clicked why it felt weird haha. My guess is that no one noticed your shorts or my shirt 😉
