Whoa I am feeling excited lately. The weather has been relatively nice to us in Chicago, we have a new puppy, and life is good. So imagine the awesome cherry on top when I pull out my reader and see that one of my favorite bloggers, Lauren aka Salt has nominated me for a Liebster Award. Woot! Thanks Salt and if you don’t already know about her you definitely need to head over to her blog. She is a fabulous blogger, runner and super mom to the most adorable little girl. She also actually won a real blogging award recently. Basically she is legit!
1. What is my current health related goal?
My goal almost all of the time is to find a balance between having a fun healthy life and not getting too crazy overboard with feeling the need to exercise all of the time. My years of figure skating always had me so worried about the number on the scale or how I looked in the mirror. These days I try to find a nice balance. I love running but I have learned to look forward to my days off and enjoy a burger from time to time (along with a nice IPA).
2. What is my biggest irrational fear?
I don’t know if it is irrational or not but I have a incredible fear of snakes. Always have and always will. Our lake house in Michigan had a gap in the sliding glass door and we used to get surprise visitors inside our house. Yep, kind of hard to sleep at night. Guess what the first thing was to be replaced on our house.
3. Do I enjoy wrapping presents?
Sure, I don’t go overboard but I definitely like doing it. I love picking out fun paper and ribbons and tags. However I am also super Type A so I have to avoid worrying about pictures lining up perfectly or little folds in the paper. My grandfather was the best present wrapper. He had perfect corners and everything matched. I should have taken a few lessons from him.
4. What is my favorite cross training activity?
I can’t get enough of strength training. I have been doing a lot of personal training and small group classes lately and I just love it. I enjoy making up new workouts and finding fun ways to create programs that build up all of those muscles we need in order to be strong and healthy runners. I also love to work the arms and abs because who doesn’t like to have toned arms and abs?!
5. If you came to visit me, what would we do?
Skate! And then go find a fun bar. I still have a passion for skating and I love taking people to the outdoor rinks for a few spins, or falls. Finish that off with a fun cocktail and you have yourself a nice end to the day! Plus, outdoor skating in Chicago is pretty classic.
6) I have 2 weeks off work and 2 round trip plane tickets to ANYWHERE. Where would you go and who would you take?
Well I would have to take my husband Rock. And we would happily go somewhere warm with a beach and lots of paths for running. In fact, we ended up in Aruba last winter during the polar vortex for our honeymoon and it was the perfect trip. We were so happy to be able to run without snow that we ran 70+ miles that week. So Aruba wouldn’t be bad.
7. What is the most embarrassing thing you have had happen to you during a run or a race?
Fortunately I haven’t had anything super embarrassing happen during a race. My husband is my running partner and the worst that has happened is typical runner stomach ailments. He knows when to help me quickly find a bathroom. But what good running partner doesn’t?
8) The 3 best days of my life? Or at least the top 3 that pop into my mind…
1. The day my husband proposed to me.
2. The day I got married.
3. Crossing the finish line of my first marathon…..because duh!
9) Okay so I HAVE to eat a fast food meal. What restaurant would I choose and what do I order?
Well it has been almost 15 years since I have had Chik-Fil-A but it was so awesome I would have to go back for a chicken sandwich and waffle fries. I’m not a fast food eater at all, so that meal 15 years ago really sticks out in my mind.
10) Have you ever met a celebrity?
I worked at Wollman Rink in Central Park for 10 years. Celebs come in and out of there all of the time. They often film movies during the day and many celebrities bring their children to the rink for lessons. I have definitely taught many a celeb’s child to skate.
11) Share a pic of myself in non-workout clothes.
I will share two! It might be the only two times I was in non-running clothes.
12) If I could choose to have a ‘do over’and switch careers, what would I choose and why?
I absolutely LOVE what I do. I get to coach runners and help people get fit and healthy. But I would have skipped my B.A. in Political Science and gone for a degree in Education. I would have loved to have been an elementary teacher. Kids and education….perfect combo.
13) If I won an Olympic Gold Medal how do I think I would react?
I would wake up very happy from that dream.
14) What do I want for Christmas?
Not to sound lame but I have everything I could possibly want. I have the most wonderful husband, an adorable puppy and a great job. And my family rocks too. Thanks family!
15) What skill do I lack?
Coordination. Yeah I know, skater and runner but its the truth. I trip over my own feet all of the time.
I know so many lovely bloggers and I adore them all. But I want to nominate some of my favorite running mom bloggers because like Salt they are both awesome moms and runners. These gals do it all and they do it well. Answer these questions and then nominate some others so we can keep the blog love rolling.
Jen @Mother Racer
Helly @Helly On The Run
Anna @Pipers Run
Harry’s Mama @Harry’s Mama
Let’s use this opportunity to all get to know each other better. Answer a few of these questions or introduce yourself and your blog.
