We Saw Some Mice, Ran A Bit, And We Got Soaked!

Happy Monday from sunny-ish Florida!  Boy does it feel amazing to see green grass.  It also feels great to not be covered from head to toe in down.

We had a great adventure at Disney.  On Friday we went to the Magic Kingdom.  This was Rock’s first ever Disney experience and my first return in over 20 years.  The park was relatively quiet and the sky was rather gray.  Before we left our hotel I decided to wear pants because the weather called for a high of 66ºF.  That was a brilliant idea but really wasn’t nearly enough.  I hate to say this, but we kind of froze on Friday.  I know that sounds terrible after leaving the weather we did in Chicago but we did not prepare for the gloomy, damp day that peaked at about 55ºF.  That’s 10 degrees shy of what I was anticipating.

We still made the best of it, rode a ton of rides and took a trip over to Downtown Disney to check things out.  I had never been there before and we really enjoyed ourselves.  We ate at an Irish Pub and enjoyed some live step dancing and music.

We found this “cinnamon roll” at Gaston’s. It was definitely more like a “loaf.”

Friday the weather was much warmer and I was prepared.  It was drizzly in the morning so I wore my older running shoes and rain jacket.  The forecast called for a 50% chance of showers during the afternoon and again the weather lied.  It rained all day and even poured a bit.  We broke down half way through the day and bought overpriced umbrellas and that was a huge help.  But when we returned to our room that night my feet looked like prunes!

On the bright side, we practically had Epcot to ourselves on Friday.  We never waited in line once and we got to see everything.  In fact, because there were no lines, we saw the entire park by 5:00pm.  I have never been to either park during the off season and despite the rough weather it was great to get to see everything and not wait forever in lines.

I was most curious to see how much exercise can be done in a day at the Magic Kingdom or Epcot.  Thanks to my Jawbone I have the stats.  Both days we walked over 20,000 steps or around 10 miles.  That is well over the daily minimum you should aim for.  This was a good thing because we definitely dined our way through the parks.  I personally love wandering the countries in Epcot where it is nearly impossible to pass over some of the delicious goodies.  We also managed a few runs at the hotel gym during our stay as well as some strength training workouts too.

Oh you know, just hanging out in Mexico on a Saturday listening to a mariachi band.

All in all it was a great time.  We had some not so ideal weather but we sucked it up and enjoyed all the magic Disney has to offer.  I think Rock’s first trip to the happiest place on earth was a success.  It also didn’t hurt that when we went to pick up our rental car the agent shined some sweet kindness on Rock.  They were holding a powder blue VW Beetle for us but as he was handing over the keys he decided Rock would enjoy a brand new Dodge Charger better.  He certainly did.

We are now visiting family for the rest of the week and the weather is looking a bit more favorable.  I am looking forward to some warm runs on the hard packed beach this week.

How was your weekend?  Ever been to Disney when it is empty?

  1. DISNEY!!! It was PACKED when we went!!! Sometimes a little drizzle can be good. It looks like you guys had fun though and OMG that cinnamon loaf! Haha I’m glad that Betty didn’t see that thing while we were there. She would have been all over it.
Enjoy the warm weather and those beach runs! I’m so jealous!

  2. I’ve never been to Disney. So I can’t speak much to that. EXCEPT HOLY COW WHAT IS THAT CINNAMON THING WHAT. Having just had a brief reprieve from the cold, I want to go back to the warm. So soaaakkk that uppppp

  3. Oh my gosh – how bad was the weather this weekend? We were completely rained out two days. I have never seen it rain that consistently hard for that long. Enjoy the rest of your time! I’m back in Chiberia

    • Boo for a rainy weekend for you. What a bummer. I always remember as a kid it rained here for an hour and then cleared up. Saturday was a complete wash. So glad I changed out of my new running shoes right before we left!

  4. I haven’t been to Disney since I was 3 years old, so I don’t really remember what it was like. I can’t wait to go for Wine and Dine in November. I want one of those cinnamon buns! Glad you guys had a nice time 🙂

  5. Nice! I always love visiting Disney! We always seem to stop in Raglan Road too!!! You should run the marathon – you really get to see all the parks then! Did you know my sis works at Animal Kingdom???
