Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a great weekend. We were blessed with another weekend of fantastic weather. Fifty degrees on Saturday was just perfect for a nice long training run. Then we polished off the weekend with some 60’s and a true day off from running.
I am so excited to share with you some awesome stuff I have been introduced to lately. I was given the opportunity through Fit Approach to try out the BeFit products and workouts for the past few weeks. If you are a long time reader, you know that I don’t do a lot of product reviews because sometimes I feel like blogs get bogged down with too many of these. So I prefer to share the ones I personally am most interested in and hope that they will benefit you as well.
So let’s first take a look at the BeFit 30 day fat burn workouts. I recently heard from an athlete who mentioned that they enjoyed these workouts for their minimal time commitment. There is something so great about choosing a nice 10 minute workout and not having to find a full hour or even a half hour to spend in front of your computer or television. All of these workouts are 10 minutes long. You can do just one, or string a few together. Or use the BeFit 30 Day Workout Calendar.
Why I love this: You don’t have to spend 30 minutes straight to gain benefits or become a stronger athlete. Most of my clients have programs where I design their training around their schedules. There is no rule that says you can’t do a 10 minute core workout before you leave for work and then come back later and do a strength training session for 10 minutes before you unwind for the day. If it works with your schedule and doesn’t overwhelm you, odds are likely you will adhere to the plan a bit more. (Side note: I don’t personally love the who “fat burn” concept behind this. You don’t ALWAYS have to be thinking about burning fat. Maybe you just want to be stronger or healthier! Why is there always so much emphasis on losing weight?)
I really enjoyed these workouts though and will be coming back to them and using some in my regular workout plan. I stacked a bunch of them together one day instead of running when it was negative freezing degrees outside. I regretted it the next day because it kicked my butt and my whole body refused to move. A friend commented that these workouts must be good if I was hurting like that!
Next up, I got to try their nutritional supplements and this is where they surprised me big time and really shined. I received their Whey Protein, Pre-Workout, and Fat Burner.
First I gave the Whey Protein a shot. This is great because I find that during marathon training, this is a perfect supplement to add in post run. It refuels the body and I find it keeps away that marathon training exhaustion that comes from taxing your body day in and day out.
A lot of these protein powders are bland or have a chalky flavor to them. I liked this Whey Protein because it has a delicious vanilla flavor without any of the chalkiness. It was a bit thin for my taste (less like a shake and more watery). But there was plenty of flavor, lots of protein, and only 100 calories per serving. I hate feeling like my post run refuel dumps a load of calories back in….I want to save some of that for treats!
Next, I started using the Pre-Workout. Holy, yes! This stuff tastes great, doesn’t make me jittery, and really seems to work. A tiny scoop added to some water adds in 5 calories but seems to work wonders on my long runs. I have a midweek 10-12 mile run each week, followed by my Saturday long run. I used this several times and felt great. Major bonus was that I didn’t get any heartburn, which is sometimes a long run side effect.
Finally, the Fat Burn. Here is where I have to say that I didn’t use this very much and don’t have a lot of knowledge about this. Personally, I just don’t like the idea behind this. I don’t believe a lot in diets, and I don’t believe in quick fixes. The concept behind this pill is to take it once a day before your biggest meal. While, it is plant based and less of a drug. I think it is best to not use a pill as a crutch for your biggest meal. I do however, like that the theory behind this particular product is it uses your body’s own thermogenesis to give it a kick start.
Aiming for moderation in general is a great plan. And if you want to eat more or have a splurge, plan it out and make it part of your master plan. For example, we eat a lot of salads in our house. But I know that burgers and fries work best for me the night before a long run. And I know that after that long run I have a little bit more room for a splurge. I eat well during the week because I want to be healthy and fit but I also give myself a little wiggle room on those other days and then don’t beat myself up. Therefore, I am probably not the best person to read a review from on this particular product.
What I love about this: The Whey Protein and Pre-Workout are great products. Priced reasonably well. They taste great and made me feel great too. I will be purchasing these products again for myself.
